Rainbow Book

For part of my portfolio for an interview at Brighton University I have made a book displaying all of the illustrations and doodles I’ve done at work that I like. Scrapbook stylee, I cut and pasted the pictures straight onto the coloured pages. I made the cover white and the pages bright to show that the content is what is important; don’t judge a book by its cover.

If You Go Down To The Woods Today...

A 13 page book created for a “Fanzine” brief on my course. I used 80gsm coloured/white paper to print on and I used black/white thread to sew the binding. This book hides the real objective of vandalism by using a bright colour scheme and a children’s song as a disguise.

Black and White

Photos I’ve developed and processed in the darkroom on my course so far. A mix of images on HP5 400 and Acros 100 and Tri-X 400 films.

Fifty Two

Started in January 2007, this project was supposed to be me producing one image per week for a year to compile into a book in December. Unfortunately I had a major computer failure and didn’t finish it, but I still like the pictures that I did do so here they are.

Blue Book

Although this book has no title, it’s another collection of Holga images; it represents a single day, from start to finish. This time it’s made with images printed onto 5x5 sketchbook pages bound together by string. This book also has illustrations in it to break up the images.

A Childs Guide to Creative Typography

For the second year A level Graphic Design exam I created a mock-up of a book to aid children in learning letterforms. The brief was to create material to promote an exhibition on creative typography, so I made this book for adults visiting the show to give to their kids to stop them getting bored, as kids do at galleries. Children often see things in a different way to adults and I related that into the work by making letters out of objects.

Red Book

The first book I made; built, cut, written and stuck by hand, this is a scrapbook style collection of photographs I have taken on a certain plastic camera. The name Red Flash comes from my camera’s quirky ability to fire the flash for no reason at all…

Robot Poster

A leaving present, this poster is hand drawn using black and silver permanant markers, a 0.5mm pigment liner and a handful of felt tip pens on a sheet of thick A2 paper. Both hands hang off the edge of the sheet.

Prague and Berlin 2008

My girlfriend and I visited these two fantastic cities in September this year, and we met up with some friends while we were in Germany. Here are some of photos I took on the trip.

Typography Poster

This poster is for a college brief: “Create a font and use it to create a purely typographic poster to advertise the course. The poster must include the course title and year - in a complimentary body text - and the alphabet in your font.”

I based my font around a mixture of the principles of Bauhaus design and childrens playing blocks.

Printed A2 on ice white lustre 160gsm paper.
